Local PR Professionals Recognized

ROANOKE, VIRGINIA – Local public relations professionals Beth Klinefelter and Betsy Parkins were recognized December 13, 2012 for their commitment and service to the local chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Both are active members of the Blue Ridge Chapter of PRSA.

Sparky Award - Beth Klinefelter

The 2012 Sparky Award was presented to Beth Klinefelter, PR account coordinator for Access Advertising & Public Relations. This award is presented to an individual who exemplifies what it really means to be an active member of the chapter. “Even though Beth is relatively new to our group, she did great things in her role as the professional development committee chair,” said Nancy Simmons, 2012 PRSA Blue Ridge President. “She surpassed expectations set before her and she also gladly accepted tasks outside of her committee responsibility.”

Illuminator Award - Betsy Parkins

The 2012 Illuminator Award was presented to Betsy Parkins, director of social media for ND&P. The Illuminator Award is given to a member of the chapter who is a bright spot in the group; someone who lights up the organization with theirpositive attitude and manycontributions.“In addition to serving as a director-at-large, she has also been a valuable member of the professional development committee,” said Nancy Simmons. “In her different roles, she brought a lot of knowledge and experience which, combined with her positive attitude, made her ideas ‘shine’ during the board meetings - helping us to make some important decisions.”

PRSA is the world’s largest association of public relations professionals. Since 1992, the Blue Ridge Chapter has served public relations professionals in Central and Southwest Virginia, by bringing professionals together to provide an exchange of experiences and ideals, and promote professional development.
